Suspension stiffness is a compromise that has to cope with different situations.

• In a straight line (i.e. “ride”) you need suspension relatively soft to deal with surface irregularities and maximise grip for acceleration and braking.
• In a corner (ie “roll”) you need it stiffer to prevent excess body roll and also to speed up turn in at corner entry.

An ARB is the simplest way of increasing the stiffness in “roll” since it has no effect in “ride”.

The ARB has another benefit – if you can change the stiffness of the bar then you can make one end of the car either softer or stiffer in relation to the other end. Since the amount of weight that is transferred in lateral acceleration is a function of the stiffness then you can use the ARB to tune the grip balance of the car.

This is a fundamental part of setting up the “steady-state” balance of the car.

We are able to calculate suitable ARB stiffness values for race cars and then build bars to give the exact range of rates that we need.

We specialise in making bespoke ARB’s;

• Blade ARB’s (inc in-car adjustable)
• Bolt on adjustment
• Saddle adjustment

We have a digital test rig to measure exact ARB stiffness rates.

Our ARB’s have been fitted to circuit racing, sprint, hill-climb and track-day cars from historic to present day cars. They have been used successfully from BTCC down to club level.
